Clients have fun with metrics they consider important. Often, they may have zero relevance to your particular business. Put them in the report, too.
Include something educational, because no matter how many times you tell clients things, they will forget, so you have to repeat the same things over and over again. For example: "This double-digit growth is not sustainable, and in Q4 we will move into the phase of protecting keyword positions and maintaining traffic."
About my staff reports :

I need a very clear understanding of what is really going on with their business. If we are doing well, we either need to devote more resources to the client, or the monthly report will be ugly.

Weekly reports on our year-over-year situation on key metrics. Then an explanation of what's driving the numbers with data backed up. "What makes a great marketing report different from a good one? The most important element of a good report is accessibility. How do you make a report for a client (or boss) stand out from the rest? Have fun with it! Mark up your report and add color to make the data a little more exciting. We also like to add
